Sullivan imposes nine-month moratorium on fowl in waterfront zone

NY SULLIVAN — Sullivan Town Board votes unanimously to restrict fowl in waterfront residential zone. Supervisor Thomas G. Daviau and the four-member board approved a nine-month moratorium on keeping chickens and other fowl on lots under one acre in the MR-12 district, responding to concerns about manure odors and sanitation in the densely populated waterfront area.
The 5-0 vote follows a public hearing where residents debated the restrictions. Previously granted Special Use Permits remain exempt from the moratorium.
