Fyler Road solar farm variance request faces ZBA skepticism

NY SULLIVAN — Sullivan Zoning Board hears revised solar farm variance proposal. The applicant for a Fyler Road solar farm sought guidance on requesting a 100 percent variance from the town's 1,000-foot wetland setback after new Department of Environmental Conservation rules began allowing solar panels on top of wetlands up to 1 acre. Board members expressed concern that approving such an extreme variance could prompt numerous similar requests and encouraged the applicant to petition the Town Board to change the setback requirement.
Town Attorney John Langey noted the board cannot vote until the Planning Board completes its SEQR environmental review.
